Happy Haunting: Colorful Ghost Fabric for a Not-So-Spooky Halloween

It started with the name.

Happy Haunting — say it out loud. There's a bounce to it, a little alliterative skip that sounds like a doorbell on the 31st and a porch full of kids in costumes. No dread in it anywhere. And that's the Halloween I love best — the playful one, the colorful one. Costumes and candy and construction-paper bats. Not the jump scares.

Ghosts were the obvious starting point once I had the name of the collection — they're the ones doing all the haunting, after all. But here's the thing about ghosts: typically we draw them plain, pale, even a little spooky. But why can’t ghosts be colorful?

So I drew a rainbow collection of ghosts — charming little guys, just two dot eyes and no goofy grins, because they didn't need them. And the funny part? Once they were on the page, those rounded little shapes looked an awful lot like speech bubbles. So I leaned all the way in and gave them something to say. Boo! The ghost-and-boo print became the heart of the whole thing.

Happy Haunting Halloween Fabric Collection is a celebration of the fun side of Halloween — eight prints built to play together, from statement ghosts to quiet little blenders, in a palette that runs the full rainbow but keeps classic black and white right there in the mix. Hand-Drawn Ghosts with “Boo!” Word Bubbles Halloween Fabric: Is there anything friendlier than a ghost with something to say? This is the print the whole collection grew out of — little tossed ghosts, each paired with a Boo!, scattered across a moody black background. It comes in a full rainbow mix, a classic white, and six tonal editions in orange, olive green, teal, plum, and gray. (That plum-and-mauve colorway is my personal favorite — proof that "spooky" and "pretty" were never actually enemies.)

Tossed Ghost Silhouettes Halloween Fabric: These are the ghosts before they learned to talk — friendly little shapes tossed close together in ghostly company. The rainbow colorway is pure candy. It also comes in a traditional white ghost colorway, plus five tonal colorways in orange, olive green, teal, plum, and gray, with all the ghosties sitting on a nice black background.

Doodled Ghost Outlines Halloween Fabric: If the solid ghosts are the life of the party, these are the quieter cousins — hand-drawn open outlines on a bright white ground, airy and a little doodly. Same seven colorways: rainbow, orange, olive green, teal, plum, gray, and white.

Small Doodled Ghost Outlines Halloween Fabric: Once again, same seven colorways, just in a smaller scale. (Aren’t they adorable?) That soft gray one makes a lovely low-volume blender when you want the ghosts to whisper instead of shout.

Happy Haunting Halloween Text Fabric: A print that murmurs its own name in the background — a repeat of happy haunting in horizontal lines — great for backings, sashing, or a sneaky bit of personality. It comes in crisp white-on-black, three gray options in different shades, plus a run of tonal colors in burnt orange, pumpkin orange, olive green, teal, and plum.

Halloween Stripes Fabric: A fun vertical stripe in 11 flavors — a candy-bright rainbow on both black and white backgrounds, black-on-white and gray-on-white, and seven tonal in light gray, medium gray, pumpkin orange, marigold, olive green, teal, and mauve-plum.

Geometric Halloween Triangles Fabric: Tiny triangles — mostly black and gray — with little confetti pops of color tossed through. Includes five “confetti” versions with pops of color in rainbow, oranges, olive greens, teals, and plums/mauves. There’s also a black-and-gray version without the pops of color. Plus six tonals in light gray, medium gray, orange/marigold, olive green, teal, and plum/mauve. (I think the rainbow confetti is my fave.)
